About the training

Course Overview

Our Benedict’s Law Training is a practical 90-minute workshop designed to help school staff understand the new allergy safety requirements and know what to do when a pupil experiences an allergic reaction, anaphylaxis or asthma emergency. From 1 September 2026, new statutory allergy safety requirements apply to schools in England. These place greater emphasis on whole-school allergy management, staff training, emergency preparedness, Individual Healthcare Plans and clear allergy safety procedures. The course turns those requirements into something practical. Learners explore common allergies and triggers, how to recognise mild reactions and anaphylaxis, when to call 999 and how adrenaline auto-injectors are used. Staff also get hands-on practice with training devices, including EpiPen, Jext and Neffy, so that they can become familiar with the equipment before they ever need to respond to a real emergency. We also look beyond the immediate emergency. The workshop covers allergy safety policies, staff responsibilities, Individual Healthcare Plans, Allergy Action Plans, asthma arrangements, incident reporting and learning from near misses. The 90-minute format also makes the workshop practical for whole-school training. Multiple sessions can be delivered during the same day, allowing different groups of staff to attend while helping the school maintain appropriate staffing and minimise disruption. The aim is to make the training practical, interactive and relevant to the school environment, helping staff understand both what they need to do and why it matters.

Maximum learners

Maximum learner-to-tutor ratio: 20:1 per workshop.

For larger schools or groups, multiple workshops can be delivered during the same day, allowing more staff to receive the training without increasing the size of individual sessions.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for attending the Benedict’s Law Training workshop.

The course is designed for school staff with a range of roles and levels of previous first aid or allergy knowledge.

For in-house delivery, we recommend providing information about your school's current allergy arrangements, policies or procedures where appropriate. This allows our trainer to make discussions and practical activities as relevant to your setting as possible.

Learners should tell us before the course about any additional support requirement so that appropriate support and reasonable adjustments can be considered.

Course duration

Each Benedict’s Law Training workshop is delivered face-to-face over 90 minutes.

The session combines tutor-led learning with discussion, practical adrenaline-device familiarisation and allergy emergency scenarios. Where time allows, additional allergy drills can be used to give learners further opportunities to practise responding to realistic situations.

For schools with larger numbers of staff, we can deliver multiple 90-minute sessions during the same day. This allows staff to attend in smaller groups while helping the school maintain staffing levels and minimise disruption to the school day.

Assessment

This is a practical awareness workshop rather than a formally assessed qualification.

Understanding is checked throughout the session through questioning, discussion, practical adrenaline-device activities and allergy emergency scenarios.

Learners are encouraged to take an active role and practise the actions they may need to take during an allergic reaction, anaphylaxis or asthma emergency.

Certification

Learners who complete the workshop receive a Good Skills Training Benedict’s Law – Allergy, Anaphylaxis & Asthma Training certificate.

Good Skills Training is ISO 9001 certified for the delivery of training and consultancy services, including course certification.
