About the training
Course Overview
Every member of staff should understand what to do if a fire occurs and how their day-to-day actions can help prevent one.
Our Fire Awareness Course gives employees a clear, practical introduction to workplace fire safety. Learners explore common fire hazards, prevention, alarms, escape routes, evacuation procedures and their own responsibilities if a fire occurs.
The course is designed for ordinary staff members rather than nominated fire marshals. The focus is on the decisions employees may realistically need to make: recognising hazards, reporting concerns, responding to the alarm and leaving the building safely.
We keep the training practical, interactive and relevant, using questions and workplace examples so learners can relate fire safety to where they actually work rather than simply sitting through a presentation.
Fire safety is serious, but the training does not have to be dull. Quality training at affordable prices – and safety that makes sense – should not be an alien concept.
The course should be supported by your organisation's own fire risk assessment, emergency plan and site-specific fire procedures.

Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites for attending the Fire Awareness Course.
The course is suitable for employees at all levels who need general workplace fire safety awareness.
If a learner has a disability, medical condition or additional support requirement that may affect their participation, please tell us before the course so suitable arrangements can be made.
Course duration
The Fire Awareness Course includes approximately 2 contact hours.
Good Skills Training can deliver the course face-to-face or remotely via Teams, depending on your organisation's needs.
Where the course is delivered in-house, we can use examples that relate to your workplace, fire procedures and common risks. Site-specific instruction about your own alarm, evacuation routes and assembly arrangements should also form part of your organisation's fire-safety arrangements.
Assessment
Understanding is checked through tutor questioning, discussion and a short knowledge check during the course.
The aim is to make sure learners understand what they should do in their workplace rather than simply remember a list of fire-safety facts.
Certification
Learners who successfully complete the course receive a Good Skills Training Fire Awareness Certificate of Attendance.
Good Skills Training is ISO 9001 certified for the delivery of training and consultancy services, including course certification.
Requalification
Best practice is for refresher training to take place at least every 3 years, in line with other health and safety related training.
Employers should also arrange refresher training when there are significant changes to the workplace, fire risks, fire procedures or evacuation arrangements, or where fire drills and workplace practice show that further training is needed.
New starters and employees moving into unfamiliar areas should also receive appropriate fire safety information and instruction as part of their induction.
