About the training

Course Overview

The QNUK Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support (Adults and Children) (RQF) is a practical regulated qualification for people who need the skills and confidence to provide basic life support to adults, children and infants. The course concentrates on the actions that matter when somebody is unresponsive, not breathing normally or choking. Learners practise casualty assessment, CPR, using an AED, the recovery position and age-appropriate techniques for adults, children and infants. This is focused Basic Life Support training rather than a wider workplace first aid course. It is particularly useful where a learner's role requires recognised competence in CPR and immediate life-saving actions without the broader syllabus covered by Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work. At Good Skills Training, the emphasis is on doing rather than simply listening. Learners practise the techniques, receive feedback and work through realistic situations so they understand what to do, why they are doing it and how the response changes for adults, children and infants. Basic Life Support is serious, but learning it does not need to be intimidating or dull. Practical, interactive and relevant training at an affordable price shouldn't be an alien concept.

Qualification code

603/2612/8

Maximum learners

Maximum ratio of 12 learners per tutor, in line with all first aid courses.

Prerequisites

No previous first aid qualification is required. Learners should be at least 14 years old to undertake this qualification. This is a practical first aid qualification and requires floor work. QNUK specifically requires learners to demonstrate first aid procedures, including performing CPR on a casualty or manikin positioned on the floor. Learners must therefore be physically capable of completing the required practical assessment. Learners must have sufficient English to understand the course and complete the assessment. QNUK strongly recommends learners are working at approximately Level 1 literacy. As this is a regulated qualification, learners must also provide suitable proof of identity before assessment. If you have a disability, medical condition or additional support requirement that may affect the training or assessment, please tell us before the course so any appropriate reasonable adjustments can be considered in advance.

Course duration

The QNUK Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support (Adults and Children) (RQF) has 3 Guided Learning Hours. Good Skills Training normally delivers the qualification face-to-face as a half-day course, with appropriate time added for breaks where required.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and observation. Learners must demonstrate the required Basic Life Support skills in realistic or simulated situations, including casualty assessment, CPR, recovery position and choking procedures for the relevant age groups. Practical assessment pass mark: 100% of the required assessment criteria.

Certification

Learners who successfully complete all required practical assessments receive the QNUK Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support (Adults and Children) (RQF). Qualification number: 603/2612/8 This is a regulated Level 2 qualification awarded by Qualifications Network (QNUK). The qualification is valid for 12 months. Certification is subject to successfully meeting all assessment requirements and the applicable QNUK quality assurance processes.

Requalification

The QNUK Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support (Adults and Children) (RQF) is valid for 12 months. Learners who need to maintain this regulated qualification should complete the qualification again before their current certificate expires. Basic Life Support skills can fade when they are not used regularly, so opportunities to practise CPR, AED use and other life-saving skills between formal courses can help maintain confidence and competence.
