Maximum learner-to-tutor ratio: 12:1.
This is a practical Train the Trainer course, so learners need sufficient opportunity to practise severe-bleeding techniques, demonstrate skills and take part in training exercises.
Our tutor observes practical performance throughout the course, corrects techniques and provides feedback as learners develop both their bleeding-control and training skills.
A smaller group size may be required where the venue, available equipment or planned practical exercises would otherwise limit safe and effective participation.
The prerequisites for the Severe Bleeding Train the Trainer Course depend on how the learner intends to use the training afterwards.
This course does not qualify somebody to become a first aid instructor.
If you are looking to deliver formal first aid courses, you should complete our First Aid Instructors Course, which provides the broader first aid and instructional competence needed to train and assess first aid learners.
This is a hands-on practical course. Learners will be required to practise bleeding-control techniques, including wound packing and tourniquet application, and demonstrate practical skills to other members of the group.
Learners should tell us before the course about any disability, medical condition or additional support requirement that may affect their participation so suitable support or reasonable adjustments can be considered.
The Severe Bleeding Train the Trainer Course is delivered over 1 full day.
The course combines practical severe-bleeding skills with trainer development. Learners first practise the techniques they may subsequently teach before progressing to demonstrations, coaching, assessment and practical training delivery.
Time is provided for practical exercises, discussion, questions, individual feedback and micro-teaching.
This isn't an attendance-only Train the Trainer course. Learners need to demonstrate both their severe-bleeding skills and their ability to teach practical techniques safely.
Assessment takes place throughout the course through tutor questioning, practical observation and feedback.
Learners are required to demonstrate appropriate bleeding-control techniques, including wound packing and tourniquet application, and show that they can explain and demonstrate skills, supervise practice, recognise ineffective or unsafe techniques and provide appropriate feedback.
Each learner also delivers a practical micro-teach session to demonstrate their ability to deliver severe bleeding training to others.
Successful completion requires competence in both practical severe-bleeding skills and training delivery.
Learners who successfully complete the course and assessment receive a Severe Bleeding Train the Trainer certificate.
Good Skills Training is ISO 9001 certified for the delivery of training and consultancy services, including course certification. You can find out more about how we certificate first aid courses here.
There is no fixed expiry for this GST course unless stated in the booking confirmation. Employers should schedule refresher training when procedures, risks or guidance change, or where practice shows it is needed.
