First Aid at Work Blended Course

The First Aid at Work Blended Learning Course is a comprehensive course, delivered with one-day eLearning and two face-to-face days. The course is designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to help in most first aid situations found in the workplace. The First Aid at Work Course also looks at the responsibilities of the first aider. On successfully completing this course, attendees will be confident, safe, prompt and effective first aiders.

Who is the Course For?

Nominated first aiders in larger organisations, or from organisations working in high risk sectors such as construction, farming, manufacturing and factories

Anyone with an interest in first aid 


The First Aid at Work Course covers the syllabus required under ‘The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, which can be found on the HSE web site.

  • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Primary survey
  • Unconscious casualties (including seizure)
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Choking casualties
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Casualties suffering from shock
  • Minor injuries, including small cuts, grazes & bruises and small splinters
  • Bones, joint and muscle injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Eye injuries
  • Sudden poisoning
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Heart Attacks
  • Stroke
  • Epilepsy
  • Asthma
  • Diabetes 


The First Aid at Work Course is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider.

Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the course, however they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole first aider.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Learners are required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore learners must be physically capable of doing this. 

Learners must have access to the internet to complete the eLearning prior to the face-to-face days

Awarding Body

First Aid Industry Body – FAIB

Good Skills Training can also offer the OFQUAL Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work

Maximum Learners Per Tutor

The First Aid at Work Course has a maximum learner to tutor ratio of 12:1 

Assessment Method

The First Aid at Work Course is assessed through practical assessment and multiple-choice assessment


First Aid at Work Certificates are valid for 3-years. First Aiders must undergo a 2-day First Aid at Work Requalification Course to maintain their qualification.

It is also strongly recommended by the HSE that all First Aiders undergo annual refresher training.
