Food Allergen Awareness Course

The Food Allergen Awareness Course is a half day course, designed for food handlers and other staff involved in food preparation and service. It is designed to provide knowledge and understanding of food allergens and foods that commonly cause intolerances, the characteristics and effects of these foods, the importance of effectively communicating information regarding allergenic ingredients to customers, and how staff can minimise the risk of cross-contamination from allergenic ingredients. Who are the Food Allergen Awareness Course for?

  • Staff or individuals who need to be aware of allergens in food
  • People undertaking this qualification must be 14 years of age, or above

What is in the Food Allergen Awareness Course syllabus?

  • Characteristics and consequences of food allergies and intolerances
  • Procedures for identifying and controlling contamination from allergenic ingredients
  • Procedures for the accurate communication of allergen information to consumers
