The Highfield Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work Course is specifically for those who want to become the first aider in the workplace. The First Aid at Work Course is designed for larger or high-risk organisations and meets the requirements laid down by the HSE for organisations that have deemed it necessary that they have first aiders trained to this level.
Who is the Course For?
The Highfield Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work Course is aimed at learners who wish to become first-aiders in the workplace. This qualification meets the requirements for training first-aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment.
Syllabus
- Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
- Primary survey
- Unconscious casualties (including seizure)
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Choking casualties
- Wounds and bleeding
- Casualties suffering from shock
- Minor injuries, including small cuts, grazes & bruises and small splinters
- Bones, joint and muscle injuries
- Chest injuries
- Burns and scalds
- Eye injuries
- Sudden poisoning
- Anaphylactic shock
- Heart Attacks
- Stroke
- Epilepsy
- Asthma
- Diabetes
Prerequisites
It is recommend that learners are a minimum of 14 years of age.
Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the course, however they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole first aider.
It is also advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in English.
Learners are required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore learners must be physically capable of doing this.

Re-Qualification
The Highfield Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work Certificates are valid for 3-years. First Aiders must take a 2-day Highfield Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work Re-qualification Course to maintain their qualification.
It is also strongly recommended by the HSE that all First Aiders undergo annual refresher training
