Who is the Paediatric First Aid Course for?

The Paediatric First Aid Course is designed for early years workers and meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage to have staff members trained in Full Paediatric First Aid. This course is also suitable for other people that work with children under 8 years old, or for Parents.

Paediatric First Aid Course Syllabus

  • Understand the role and responsibility of a paediatric first aider
  • Be able to assess an incident
  • Be able to manage an infant or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Be able to manage an infant or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Recognise and assist an infant or child who is choking
  • Manage an infant or child who is wounded and bleeding
  • Manage an infant or child who is in shock
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or child with a suspected fracture or dislocation
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or child with a head, neck or back injury
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child with conditions affecting eyes, ears and nose
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child with a chronic medical condition
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat or cold
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who has sustained an electric shock
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child with burns or scalds
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who has been poisoned
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who has been bitten or stung

Paediatric First Aid Course Assessment Process

  • This course is continually assessed by our trainer for practical skills and there is a short multiple choice test to ensure that the theoretical knowledge has been retained.

Paediatric First Aid Course Renewal Process

  • This course is renewed by re-taking a Paediatric First Aid Course every three years
