Who should attend?
Learners are assessed through a combination of knowledge assessment and observed practical first aid activities.
The knowledge element includes a multiple-choice assessment designed to check understanding of the principles and procedures covered during the course. 40-question multiple-choice written assessment under exam conditions. The written assessment is 60 minutes and the pass mark is 30/40.
Practical assessment takes place throughout the course and includes the key First Aid at Work skills, such as casualty assessment, CPR, AED use, recovery position, choking, bleeding control and the management of injuries and medical emergencies.
Learners are given clear demonstrations, time to practise and constructive feedback before completing assessed activities.
The aim isn't simply to help somebody pass a test. We want learners to leave able to recognise what is happening, make sensible decisions and provide safe, effective first aid until further help arrives.
Learners who successfully complete the course and assessment receive a First Aid at Work certificate.

Ash pitched the course to the right level for the learners attending, he demonstrated a good subject knowledge and shared personal experiences where appropriate.
The course was well presented by the tutor. the information was pitched at the correct level for the participants taking part as we had all completed First aid training before so it was delivered as a refresh and reminder which worked well for me and there was time to ask questions and discuss real life experiences of first aid situations. This was a small group and that worked because everybody's voice was heard and it was really interesting to hear the different situations that could occur in differnt work place settings.
