The First Aid at Work Requalification Course is the course required by full First Aiders looking to renew their qualification. The two-day course is designed to refresh learner’s knowledge, skills and confidence to help in most first aid situations found in the workplace. On successfully completing this course, attendees will be confident, safe, prompt, and effective first aiders.
Who is the Course For?
Nominated first aiders in larger organisations, or from organisations working in high-risk sectors such as construction, farming, manufacturing and factories who need to renew their first aid qualification
Syllabus
The First Aid at Work Requalification Course covers the syllabus required under The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, which can be found on the HSE website.
- The importance of preventing cross-infection.
- The need for recording incidents and actions.
- Use of available equipment.
- Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure).
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of an automated external defibrillator.
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking.
- administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding.
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock.
- Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
- Administer first aid to a casualty with:
- injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries;
- chest injuries;
- burns and scalds;
- eye injuries;
- sudden poisoning;
- anaphylactic shock;
- Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes).
Prerequisite
- You must already hold a valid First Aid at Work Qualification to attend this course.
- It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
- Learners are required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore learners must be physically capable of doing this.
Course Duration
12 contact hours.
Good Skills Training normally deliver this course over 2-days, 09:30 – 16:30.
This course can be delivered via blended learning, where 1/3rd of the course is delivered online prior to the face-to-face session, which would be run over 8 contact hours, typically 09:00 – 18:00.

Re-Qualification
First Aid at Work Certificates are valid for 3-years. First Aiders must undergo a 2-day First Aid at Work Requalification Course to maintain their qualification.
It is also strongly recommended by the HSE that all First Aiders undergo annual refresher training.
