COSHH is not just about chemicals in bottles. Dusts, fumes, vapours, gases and biological agents can all create exposure risks depending on the work being carried out.
About the training
COSHH can become a paperwork exercise very quickly if people do not understand what the assessment is actually trying to achieve. The point is to understand how someone could be exposed to a hazardous substance and what controls will genuinely reduce that exposure.
Learners look at hazardous substances, routes of exposure, labels and safety data sheets, control measures, PPE, storage, emergencies and the role of a COSHH assessment. We connect the theory with the substances and tasks people actually recognise from work.
For in-house sessions, using some of your own products and examples often makes the training far more useful than discussing generic chemicals nobody in the room ever sees.
No. Training helps people understand the principles and their responsibilities. A suitable assessment still needs to consider the specific substance, task, exposure and controls in your workplace.
