Highfield Level 2 Award in Risk Assessment

Risk assessment shouldn't just be paperwork completed because somebody says it has to be done. Used properly, it helps us understand what could cause harm, who could be affected and what we can reasonably do to control the risk. The Highfield Level 2 Award in Risk Assessment (RQF) is a regulated qualification providing learners with a practical introduction to the principles of workplace risk assessment. During the course we look at why risk assessments are needed, employer responsibilities, the difference between hazards and risks, how accidents and ill health can affect people and organisations, and the process used to carry out a suitable risk assessment. Learners also consider how risk can be evaluated and how the hierarchy of control can be used when deciding what should be done. On our tutor-led courses, we don't want risk assessment to become a form-filling exercise. We use discussion, activities and workplace examples to help learners understand why we assess risk and how the decisions made during a risk assessment can help prevent people being harmed. For organisation-specific courses, we can use appropriate examples from your workplace so learners can relate the principles to the activities, hazards and controls they are likely to encounter at work. The aim is for learners to understand the principles behind a risk assessment and be better able to contribute to the risk assessment process in their workplace.
