Fire Marshal Course

Fire marshals and fire wardens have an important role to play in keeping people safe, but the job involves more than putting on a high-vis vest when the alarm sounds. Our Fire Marshal Course helps nominated staff understand what they should be looking for before a fire happens and what they may need to do if an alarm is raised. Learners explore how fires start and spread, common workplace fire hazards, prevention, routine checks, escape routes, evacuation procedures and the responsibilities of a fire marshal or fire warden. We use workplace examples, discussion and practical activities to make the training useful and relevant. The course also includes a practical fire extinguisher session (when run face-to-face and so long as there is a suitable outside space), helping learners understand the different types of extinguishers, their limitations and when attempting to tackle a fire would be unsafe. Fire safety is serious, but that doesn't mean the training has to be dull. We want people involved, asking questions and thinking about their own workplace. Practical, interactive and relevant safety training shouldn't be an alien concept. The exact responsibilities of a fire marshal should always reflect your organisation's fire risk assessment, emergency plan and site-specific procedures.
