The First Aid at Work Requalification Course is the course required by full First Aiders looking to renew their qualification. The two-day course is designed to refresh learner’s knowledge, skills and confidence to help in most first aid situations found in the workplace. On successfully completing this course, attendees will be confident, safe, prompt, and effective first aiders.

Who is the Course For?

Nominated first aiders in larger organisations, or from organisations working in high-risk sectors such as construction, farming, manufacturing and factories who need to renew their first aid qualification

Syllabus

The First Aid at Work Requalification Course covers the syllabus required under The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, which can be found on the HSE website.

  • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Primary survey
  • Unconscious casualties (including seizure)
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Choking casualties
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Casualties suffering from shock
  • Minor injuries, including small cuts, grazes & bruises and small splinters
  • Bones, joint and muscle injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Eye injuries
  • Sudden poisoning
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Heart Attacks
  • Stroke
  • Epilepsy
  • Asthma
  • Diabetes

Prerequisite

  • You must already hold a valid First Aid at Work Qualification to attend this course.
  • It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
  • Learners are required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore learners must be physically capable of doing this.

Course Duration

12 contact hours.
Good Skills Training normally deliver this course over 2-days, 09:30 – 16:30.

This course can be delivered via blended learning, where 1/3rd of the course is delivered online prior to the face-to-face session, which would be run over 8 contact hours, typically 09:00 – 18:00.

Assessment Method

Multiple choice exam paper and practical assessment.

Re-Qualification

First Aid at Work Certificates are valid for 3-years. First Aiders must undergo a 2-day First Aid at Work Requalification Course to maintain their qualification.

It is also strongly recommended by the HSE that all First Aiders undergo annual refresher training.
