Asbestos remains one of the biggest occupational health risks in the UK. Although its use was banned in 1999, asbestos-containing materials can still be found in many commercial, public and domestic buildings. Anyone carrying out maintenance, installation, refurbishment or repair work may unknowingly disturb asbestos if they are not properly trained.
High-quality asbestos awareness training helps employees understand where asbestos may be found, recognise materials that could contain asbestos and understand the precautions that should be taken to avoid disturbing them. It also helps organisations meet their legal duties under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
This course is an awareness programme only. It is designed for people who may encounter asbestos during their work but does not qualify delegates to intentionally work on, remove or disturb asbestos-containing materials. Anyone carrying out licensed asbestos work or certain types of non-licensed work must receive the appropriate task-specific training in addition to asbestos awareness training.
